Sessions for the Heyworth Community start on Sunday, April 12 at 5:30 pm at Worn Again Too, 104 East Main St, Heyworth, IL. The cost is $25 per person (spouses are free). Light refreshments will be offered each week.

We will offer FOUR of the nine weeks listed below in a session format. See the dates below. (Each session will be approximately 75 minutes long)

Goal: The participants will learn a biblical foundation for financial stewardship and practical money management skills.

Topics:

  • Biblical principles of stewardship (Matthew 6:19–24)

  • The purpose and view of money in God's kingdom

  • Identifying financial core values/priorities

  • Setting goals (begin with the end in mind)

  • Assessing Fixed, Flexible, & Fun Expenses

Sunday, April 19 @ 5:30 pm

Goal: The participants will develop the knowledge and tools to create and maintain a practical budget that aligns with their financial goals and biblical stewardship principles.

Topics:

  • The value of planning and stewardship (Luke 14:28–30).

  • A Budget is essential to get control of your financial health. Cashflow is king.

  • Crafting a personal or family budget

  • Preparing for savings, giving, needs, and unexpected expenses.

Sunday, April 26 @ 5:30 pm

Goal: The participants will plan how to reduce and eliminate bad debt and leverage good debt for long-term financial health.

Topics:

  • The burden of debt: Proverbs 22:7 ("The borrower is slave to the lender").

  • Good debt vs. bad debt: understanding when borrowing is wise.

  • Developing a debt reduction plan (e.g., snowball & avalanche methods).

  • Avoiding Future debt: living within your means.

Sunday, May 3 @ 5:30 pm

Goal: The participants will develop a savings plan that ensures security and prepares for unforeseen expenses.

Topics:

  • The biblical value of planning ahead (Proverbs 6:6–8)

  • Emergency funds: why and how much to save

  • Strategies for short-term savings & long-term investments

  • Practical tips for reducing expenses and increasing savings

BONUS Session: Sunday, June 7 @ 5:30 pm

Goal: The participants will draft a long-range investment strategy that will enable responsible stewardship and long-term financial security.

Topics:

  • Biblical wisdom on wealth building (e.g., Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25:14–30)

  • Investment basics: risk, return, and diversification

  • Understanding retirement accounts: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, & 401(k)s

  • Aligning investments with ethical and kingdom values

BONUS Session: Sunday, June 14 @ 5:30 pm

Goal: The participants will start or continue a strategy for a financially secure retirement while maintaining a purposeful and Christ-honoring life.

Topics:

  • Planning for retirement: diligence and rest (Proverbs 13:11)

  • Transitioning well: emotional and spiritual preparation

  • Retirement income strategies: pensions, annuities, and investments

  • Continuing kingdom work in retirement

Goal: The participants will consider how they can leave a godly legacy through intentional planning and generosity that blesses future generations.

Topics:

  • The biblical perspective on inheritance (Proverbs 13:22)

  • Basics of wills and estate planning

  • Passing on values and faith alongside financial resources

  • Charitable giving and supporting kingdom causes

Goal: The participants will examine their need for various insurance to protect their families and assets, ensuring good stewardship through wise policy choices.

Topics:

  • The biblical view of preparedness and protection (Proverbs 27:12)

  • Overview of insurance types: life, health, home, auto, and disability & choosing which

  • Selecting the right coverage for your needs; Avoiding over-insurance

  • Home (buying/renting), car purchases

(BONUS SESSION) Goal: The participants will gain the insights and skills necessary to trade stocks and cryptocurrencies as a way to take investing a step further wisely.

Topics:

  • The basics of trading: stocks, forex, and cryptocurrencies

  • Risks and rewards: balancing potential gains with stewardship principles

  • Tools and resources for trading: platforms and strategies

  • Ethical trading: avoiding greed and practicing contentment
