YM327 Social Issues in Youth & Family Ministry
COURSE DESCRIPTION
YM327 is an exploration of the current social issues confronting young people (both children and teenagers) and their families (cutting, abuse, sexuality, drugs/alcohol, suicide, self-esteem, pornography, etc), and basic counseling skills needed to effectively address these issues from a biblical perspective so as to provide the necessary guidance for young people on their journey to becoming disciples of Jesus.
COURSE RATIONALE
Adolescents are in the seven most critical years of their lives. It is during these years that many young people make decisions or deal with circumstances that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Many are dealing with real and systemic issues that have occurred before these critical seven years, but it is during this time they are trying to make sense of everything as they transition from childhood to adulthood. We must understand them, their culture, the world in which their culture fluctuates, and the issues that swirl around them so that we can counsel and nurture them toward wholeness in Christ as full cups.
